What are the types of poems?

In my exploration of poetry, I've come to realize there are numerous types out there. Some of the most common ones include sonnets, usually 14 lines long, and haikus, which are typically formed of three lines. There are also free verse poems that don't follow a specific structure and epic poems which tell grand, heroic tales. Limericks, with their humorous and rhyming nature, and odes, which are poems of praise, are also quite popular. I find it fascinating how different structures and styles can convey such a wide range of emotions and stories.

In my latest exploration of the world of poetry, I've found that there are some truly iconic poets still gracing us with their talent. Some of the most famous include the likes of the profound American poet Robert Pinsky, the insightful Canadian wordsmith Margaret Atwood, and the captivating British poet Carol Ann Duffy. I was also moved by the powerful works of Wole Soyinka from Nigeria and the deeply expressive Indian poet Gulzar. Each of these poets, with their unique voices and perspectives, are still actively enriching the global literary scene with their mesmerizing verses.

Who's the best young poet today?

In today's vibrant literary scene, identifying the best young poet can be quite a challenge, given the incredible talent out there. However, one name that keeps popping up is Ocean Vuong, renowned for his raw, emotive verses. His debut collection, "Night Sky with Exit Wounds," has won numerous awards and has been praised by critics worldwide. Vuong's fresh perspective and innovative use of language truly set him apart. So, if I had to pick, my vote for the best young poet today would go to Ocean Vuong.
